Another kid anime? come on yugioh franchise is decades old, make a frikking anime aimed at a older public, why the need to explain even how to take the cards out the package man? total disappointment, unfortunately another skip, i miss Vrains and ArcV

Akamatsu Soujiro • 2 years ago

we all miss duel with 5 blocks and extra zone :(

Wako Doodle • 2 years ago

Tbh they did once. It was called "Yugioh 0 (Or Yugioh Zero)" , the series that came before dueling was a thing and experimented with different types of games; from robot battlers, tamagotchi pets to gachapon chess.

Long story short, the author and creator lost his notes one day, so he couldn't remember the rules to all of them but the card game. So he used it to make the franchise and anime we know today.

However in Yugioh 0, the Pharaoh was an evil spirit who challenged people to a shadow game based on what evil they were doing; illusions that mentally broke them. Whether it was having a guy get stabbed by his pet scorpion, setting himself on fire or being eaten by his own tamagotchi pet; the rules were clear it wasn't a children's show.

But everyone forgot when yami yugi was evil and just remembered the card game -.-
However it at least had a manga and anime (not localised though)

Bowser's Big Bean Burrito • 2 years ago

Yugioh 0 was based off the original manga tho

So was the anime. The manga pivoted to Duel Monsters on its own

Kai Kazuhiro • 2 years ago

What you're saying is a misconceptions westerners has been fed with. Yugioh 0, IS Yugioh. It's not weird for Shonen Jump manga to pivot genres and storylines completely/

Wako Doodle • 2 years ago

Exactly! Unfortunately I only know what I've been shown so eventually I'd end up making a mistake like this. Still, I wish yugioh 0 had a comeback or at least an english dub to get more well-known.

Unedited • 2 years ago

pokemon generations is like the closest pokemon version of it and it's great, idk why these franchises dont to cool stuff like that

Wako Doodle • 2 years ago

Man I loved that series. It made me feel like I was a kid playing my gameboy again ^^

Not sure where you got that. My understanding was simply that the card game was introduced as a 'game of the week' like any other, but the author got so many write-in requests from kids who wanted to know how to play it, that it began to get more focus due to the popularity, until it ultimately became the main focus of the story.

SlayTheRapper • 1 year ago

Can understand but we've seen Yu-Gi-Oh sevens with a nice cliff hanger ending so we're kind of used too itt right? Xo

Wako Doodle • 2 years ago

Ah that's what happened! Sadly I'm only going off what the yugioh manga author writings he left from memory and I probably remembered it wrong.

Still, I wish they gave us those capsule monsters that mokuba had. Considering the skylanders and amiibo craze a while back, I wouldn't be surprised if they became just as popular. That and having your favourite monster in statue-form would look good on any shelf ^^

Mr. Trueman • 1 year ago

I remember and would prefer that over this.

MegaRyuki • 2 years ago

I know about it and know about the darker manga, but this is different, they decided the normal yugioh is too complex so they DUMBED DOWN the game for kids and made a separate one, now they will milk this for decades untill they are forced to expand it with new mechanics to keep it fresh and then it will be equal to the OG yugioh and they will do another shit again

flare rice • 2 years ago

Ik I miss it to

MegaRyuki • 2 years ago

Its harsh man

Axel Vargas • 2 years ago

It's supposed to be a kids' game and a kids' anime. The ones in the wrong here are us for getting used to a darker and more complex YGO. I miss Vrains too and wish they didn't make everything so childish, but I can't blame them to give a kids' game back to the kids

Sam Thiem • 1 year ago

Yugioh has never been child friendly

Season 1-death, mind conrol, body horror
Season 2-Cults mind control death
Season 3-death control and more death
season 4-War death mind control
Season 5- War death mind control

like i dont see go on but yugioh starts out friendly but its like HA NOPE YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS A KID SHOW BRING IN THE TRAUMA

Shadow Moon • 2 years ago

nah, original yugioh was a teenagers game and anime.
in any case, sheltering kids from the darker stuff never works out that well.

Gandalf lv3 • 5 months ago

This was Yuga's whole motivation in Sevens. Which also represents the company's intention I suppose.

Arz • 1 year ago

it's never been for kids and as someone that works with them none of them watch or like yugioh so their efforts are in vein, they should focus back on the audience that's actually interested

loyal serena • 2 years ago

yugioh has been for kids since dm, wdym? also only the first few episodes and mostly will be a explanation to rush duels just like it sevens. atleast give it a chance first before you skip it.

MegaRyuki • 2 years ago

Man this is going too far, next time they will make a super tutorial about how there is this crazy thing called a card game that is super fun and then make it so they have to explain what is a card, how you play, etc, go rush is already to dumbed down for me to the point that even this first episode is enough to make me stay away from it entirely

bubby • 2 years ago

good riddance

loyal serena • 2 years ago

its for kids & people who've probably never played before so what do you expect on how they teach it? theyd obviously wanna make it simple for people who have never played rush duels or yugioh at all for that matter. lol its just one episode, grow up.

Narsan • 2 years ago

you did not grow in Japan, you don't know how people in Japan think, you don't know what they like, also they make this for kids, if Japan people like this stuff they will continue to make it, Japan gives a shit about what other countries think. For me the main focus of this episode anyway was the girl, this girl has everything i like from a character she is mysterious, manipulative, she does not were her uniform completely(meaning she does things how she wants), she is serious, cool, beautiful(the shot at 22:11 when she brushed her hair, it left me with no words, the hair, eyes, smile the entire think it was just to cute and beautiful), at this moment i just want to watch more because of her, to see what intentions she has

Annecy Change • 2 years ago

They think people would waste their money to buy these cards when there already a better one out there. lol

DarkContinent • 1 year ago

they're turning yugioh anime into kids anime even though all of the OG fans are already adults
I Totally miss arc V and also yugioh duel monster that have dark scenes

DarkContinent • 2 years ago

man the it looks like they're too busy getting kids into yugioh.
while most every yugioh fans are already grown up man lol

AtroIsNomical • 2 years ago

Oh no not a yugioh aimed at a younger demographic and people who are new to yu gi oh! anything but that!

ichisan • 2 years ago

They should bring back the original yugi oh before duel monster, lol... Yugi oh doesn't even about card in the first place...
watch?v=YDgmFe7rKwg

Frank Harris • 2 years ago

I know my comment will be obvious, this Rush dueling is all to bring in a new generation of fans. I guess only Asian fans seeing as they have not released rush dueling to the west.

theultimategamer95 • 2 years ago

Still gonna be skipping this series, just came to watch ep 1 to see what it has to offer, and yep, still pretty much the same thing, same old really (just with new characters).

Yuamu is an adorable female lead though, I'll admit :3

And with that I'll take my leave. Hope y'all enjoy this show.

Seosamh Wray • 2 years ago

It's looking even stupider than Sevens started out. I'll see if I can push my way through this. Perhaps it will do for Sevens what Sevens did for Zexal and improve my opinion of the show retroactively.

Vincent • 2 years ago

Executive: Alright, people, gather up! Apparently, our previous season, SEVENS, is badly received due to the crappy storyline and the fact that the real MC, Luke, is not a Yu-. What do you think about this new one?

Writer: Well, this one's still crap for sure, but we can't help it since it's just for kids. But the second matter is crucial, how shall we fix that?

Character designer: Hey, I got an idea. How about we make all characters as Yu-s? We can decide who will be the true MC later on the road.

Executive: You are genius!

Ian Nava H • 2 years ago

I mean it wasn't badly received.
It seemingly was successful at the target audience and at Japan.
So it really makes sense they would continue down this road

Rubie • 2 years ago

But it was doing well with kids in Japan. And since they make most of their money off of kids in Japan, why bother changing the formula for a generation that gets them nothing. This applies to the US too, the most well funded animated shows make their money from children with their parent's money. That's why kids shows last longer.

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 2 years ago

It is sad to see Yugioh reduced to a 2-years-old children joke when it used to be about the Pharaoh and his quest to retrieve all the Millennium Items to save the world from true evil. I have a feeling this is another crappy series and its sad that I have to drop a series that used to be my entire universe once before.

Apparently producers treat children like they are brain-dead, which is insulting when you think about how many children these days are smarter and sharper than some adults today. Its sad.

Kai Kazuhiro • 2 years ago

Stop acting like a neckbeard. It's always been made for kids, it's a Shonen Jump manga to begin with.

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 2 years ago

It was not made for kids! It was for all ages before! Do you think only children enjoyed the first season, where it was all about fighting the demonic legends of Egypt, or Judai becoming the king of the underworld?!? Sop spouting and contradicting when you don't know the first thing about the game itself!

Nero32 • 2 years ago

I'll tell you a secret. All yougioh series are made for kids. Even your DM, where there is just a bunch of random cards, along with Blue eyes and other.

Merik Lobo • 2 years ago

I hate to break it to you but there are more target demographics out there than you realize. True, Yu-Gi-Oh was always aimed at kids, but by kids I mean it was aimed at young teens. that's the shounen demographic in a nutshell. This show is aimed at an even younger demographic. That's the Kodomomuke demographic. Yes, that's a thing. Its shows that are meant to be kept as thematically simple and child friendly as possible. Shows like Astro Boy, Fairy Tail, and Hamtaro also share this demographic. They legitimately are aiming this show at a younger demographic than they used to.

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 2 years ago

Tell that to those in their 40s and still playing the traditional DM game, where monsters only attack when there is another monster on the field. Its only the retarded business men that still think that.

Rubie • 2 years ago

Only kids bring in money to animated shows. That's why "adult cartoons" never last long. Even if adults watch a show, if they don't buy products, which funds the show, it will get canned. This is why some shows with adult humor sell kids products. And in Japan, it's more apparent because the status of kids shows there are almost solely determined by product sales.

MegaRyuki • 2 years ago

Oooh, so a cartoon about gigant shapeshifiting monster that eat people for no reason doenst bring money ?

Might as well remenber you of a certain franchise were a kind yellow collored dressed girl has her head brutally devoured by a monster and where little girls sell their souls to make their wishes a reality only for then to suffer gruesome deaths sometime later, for some reason that i cant fathom this even turned into a game, or better said GAMES

But it just doenst make money so they should be self replicating aliens that consume their own shows by thenselves

Selena Trish Smith • 2 years ago

So they went from simplifying the game for kids to
simplifying it for someone who doesn't know how
to open a card pack 😅

Dick Festival • 2 years ago

How it should've been: Kids found a spaceship and neared it and then caught radiation and died horrible deaths lol

Frank Harris • 1 year ago

I think the kids should have been abducted.

Random guy • 2 years ago

You just explained an dragon ball z filler episode lol

Monokuma • 2 years ago

Here's to another Year of You people complaining about a kid focused anime and how the MC always loses, yet turning up every week to watch it anyway.

Now, I wonder how many years had passed since Sevens' finale... for scientific reasons. If that was Galient, who looked like a 37 Year old back then, then we could be at around 20-30'ish years later given he looks about 60... which would mean Mimi is around65 now which would make her look like a teenager.
